Well as most of you have probably heard we are having an extremely smokey week in Moscow. It is said that there are over 560 hot spots currently burning or smoldering in the country. Unfortunately we are also experiencing a drought. The smokey haze has been lingering in Moscow now for about two weeks with this past week being the worst. Some days we are able to see the surrounding buildings and other days it is a complete white out. Our homes thankfully have not been penetrated by the smoke. They are telling us to stay inside and refrain from any outdoor physical exertion.
Due to the smoke our satellite is out and we are only able to get BBC and CNN which are constantly reminding us of how bad the smoke is in Moscow and that provided the forecast there isn't much hope for any change until the middle of this week. We also have access to a handful of Russian channels. So we are doing what we can to avoid the cabin fever feeling. We had a small dinner party last night, making homemade pizza and playing a little Apples to Apples. In preparation for our party we hit the commissary for a few last minute items. You would have thought the world was ending; everyone had the same thought stock up while you can not sure when the next time you will be able to get to a supermarket will be. We woke up this morning with the hopes of at least a small breeze...and we got nothing. One of the news reporters yesterday said, "The only way I can describe how this feel is it's like Hell, hot and smokey."Hey thanks news reporter guy so glad you are on one of the two channels I can watch while living in the city you just compared to hell:)
